Guaranteeing Healthy Air for Patients, Staff & Visitors

VerdexAir® Isn’t A Luxury in Healthcare Facilities – It’s A Necessity

Building Healthy Air Healthcare

Why Hospitals Need VerdexAir®

Covid-19 has been devastating for hospitals around the world. Quality indoor air quality plays a critical role in healing and wellness at hospitals and other healthcare facilities – lives may depend on it.

Hospitals are meant to be places of healing and wellness. They must maintain a high level of cleanliness to promote healing and good health, especially for patients in critical care units.

We now know that the biggest risk of Covid transmission is airborne, while the risk of surface transmission is very low (just a 1 in 10,000 probability, according to the Centers for Disease Control). However, many hospitals struggle to meet the ventilation guidelines of 6 air changes per hour in wards.

This is mainly due to inadequate existing ventilation systems in older hospitals and prohibitive retrofit costs, not to mention the disruption that a new HVAC installation would entail.

Hospitals, as well as nursing homes, dental offices and fertility clinics, must be a bastion of cleanliness and health. Critical equipment must also be protected from harmful substances that can interfere with their operation. Energy savings and flexible air filtration systems for surgery suites are also a high priority these days.

These goals are only achievable with a filtration system that is effective at removing even the smallest pollutants from the air. Air filtration from VerdexAir™ can hold the key to meeting these critical challenges.

The Problem with Healthcare Buildings

Many public hospitals in large urban areas were constructed many years ago, when innovations in ducts and vents were not as highly advanced as they are today. As a result, the air drawn into the hospital may not be properly filtered through the outdated ductwork. So, common pollutants such as dust mites, dirt, pollen and airborne bacteria can more readily circulate through the vents.

Moisture presents a particular problem in ductwork. It often leads to problems such as mold and spores, not to mention the risk of salmonella and nosocomial infections, which can grow into a major health issue beyond compromised air quality alone.

Much of the air that circulates through a hospital is drawn in from the outside. The indoor air quality in many health facilities therefore largely depends on the outside air quality. Dangerous vehicle exhaust fumes and odors can pose a threat by entering the building via the HVAC system.

The Technical Solution -
HEPA Upgrade for HVAC Systems

Verdex is the only company that can make a HEPA level filter that captures 99.5% of viruses, compatible with current HVAC handling units within Healthcare Facilities.

The new, highly effective VerdexAir® HEPA E12 filter from Verdex has been specifically optimized for use in Hospitals and Healthcare Facilities, to ensure Healthy Air in all indoor spaces.

Save Millions in Energy Costs

The life cycle cost of a filter can be broken down as depicted in the right figure. The initial investment includes the capital cost of the filter, frame and installation, and contributes about 6%.

Further costs to be considered are maintenance cost, which represents the cost of replacement filters and labor, and cost to dispose of the used filters.

By far the largest cost contribution however, is the energy cost of the system necessary to power the fan, making up 76% of the total cost.

Energy consumption of a VerdexAir® Filter made from Verdex 3D nanofibers is approximately 40% lower than with a traditional HEPA filter of the same efficiency rating.

This energy savings directly translates into a 60% cost savings, allowing significant monetary savings potential for building installations requiring a multitude of filters.

Virus Free Buildings

In times of a pandemic, the regular filter set-up will no longer be sufficiently effective. Standard HVAC filters are not designed to safely capture viruses and bacteria.

VerdexAir® provides innovative Nanofiber HEPA level filtration that captures 99% of viruses.

Healthy Air can become a reality without major system changes or reconfigurations or downtimes.
